Speed Causes Almena, Michigan Motorcycle Crash

On Friday, June 25, 2010, at approximately 4:35 p.m., a Michigan motorcycle crash occurred in Almena, MI. Authorities said that the crash involving a motorcycle and a car took place at the intersection of 22nd Street and County Road 375.

The police report indicated that thirty-five-year-old Amy Riegle of Paw Paw was traveling west on County Road 375 in a Chevy Malibu and attempted to turn southbound on 22nd Street when twenty-three-year-old Jacob Hatfield struck the car with his Kawasaki ZX600 motorcycle. Hatfield, also from Paw Paw, was thrown from his bike and sustained injuries.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene they found Hatfield still lying in the street. Police said he was wearing a helmet but appeared to have sustained arm and leg injuries. He was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for medical attention. Authorities said his motorcycle was also seriously damaged in the crash.

Riegle was wearing her seat belt and was not injured in the crash. Police say witnesses came forward and stated that they had observed the motorcycle driver (Hatfield) speeding just prior to the crash, and police cited Hatfield for speeding. The day following the accident, the hospital listed Hatfield in stable condition.
